The Year I Stopped Sleeping

by Hannelore Kross

When the world shuts its eyes, the clock stops, and a new, fractured reality begins to pulse in the dark. This unflinching memoir chronicles a harrowing descent into the endless hours of insomnia and the strange, lucid visions it grants the weary mind. A brave journey to the frontiers of sleep.

A memoir about insomnia sounds like it should be tedious, and this is anything but. Kross writes with such dry humour about her own collapsing routines that I laughed out loud on a train, then sat very quietly for the next twenty pages.
